THE HOPE RETREAT
It is well known that a majority of people who have been released from incarceration will most likely reoffend and be placed back into jail or prison.
To avoid going back to jail or prison all an individual has to do is not return to the same living environment where they were arrested, not associate with the same people and type of people they associated with upon arrest (outside of a structured environment), and get a job.
If an ex-convict follows these three basic rules they will not return to jail or prison. It's as simple as that. However, where do they go?
This is where the Hope Retreat comes in. We are proposed to purchase land in the desert, and build a self-sustaining retreat where ex-convicts can go directly after being released from jail. This retreat, once built, will have housing units, an administrative building, stores, emergency response unit, and a school where ex-cons can learn a trade, and get their GED. They can also attend online college courses. Once they have completed their schooling they would be provided with job opportunities within the community (as long as they are not return to the exact same type of living environment which led to their arrest and conviction).
In addition to learning a trade, these individuals will be provided counseling to help them reintegrate into mainstream society. We feel this is a better and more productive means of preventing recidivism.
